Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Andrew Berry, the operator of Scale Painter ("Scale Painter," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Scale Painter mobile application or visit scalepainter.app (together, the "Service").

In this policy, "Personal Data" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.

Information We Collect

Account information

Scale Painter uses Sign in with Apple and Firebase Authentication. When you create or use an account, we may receive and store:

• Your name and email address, if Apple makes them available. If you use Apple's Hide My Email feature, we receive your Apple private relay address instead of your personal email address.
• An account identifier and authentication information needed to keep you signed in and secure your account.
• Technical authentication information processed by our service providers, such as login timestamps and IP addresses.

Content you save

We store the information you choose to save in Scale Painter so it can be synchronized with your account. This includes:

• Paint identifiers saved to your stash.
• Palette names, palette notes, paints added to palettes, and notes you add to individual paints.
• Timestamps associated with creating or updating this content.

Your account content is private and is not made available to other Scale Painter users.

Device, network, and security information

We and our service providers may process limited technical information needed to operate and secure the Service, deliver application updates, and troubleshoot problems. This may include your IP address, device and operating-system information, application version, request timestamps, and app or device integrity information. Scale Painter uses Firebase App Check with Apple App Attest to help confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the application.

We do not use this information for advertising or to track you across applications or websites owned by other companies.

Camera and barcode scanning

If you choose to scan a paint barcode, Scale Painter asks for permission to use your camera. Camera images are processed on your device for barcode recognition. We do not upload or store those images. You can change camera permission at any time in your device settings.

Information you share or send to us

If you contact us for support, we receive the information in your message, such as your email address and any information you choose to include. If you export a paint list, the application creates a temporary CSV file on your device and opens the system share sheet. Scale Painter does not upload the file to our servers as part of the export process or choose the recipient; you decide where to send or save the file.

Website information

Our website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Like most hosted websites, our hosting provider may process ordinary request information, such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and the date and time of the request, to deliver and secure the site. The site also obtains font files from Google Fonts, which causes your browser to make a request to Google.

Online Tracking

Scale Painter does not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies. Our service providers process limited technical information as described in this policy, but we do not use third-party advertising or tracking services that collect information about your activities over time across unrelated websites or applications. Because we do not engage in this type of tracking, browser "Do Not Track" signals do not change how we process information.

How We Use Information

We use information described above to:

• Create, authenticate, and administer your account.
• Store and synchronize your stash, palettes, and notes.
• Provide application and catalog updates.
• Protect the Service from fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
• Respond to support requests and other messages.
• Diagnose failures and maintain the reliability of the Service.
• Comply with applicable law and enforce our legal rights.

We do not send marketing text messages or push notifications. We do not use your information for targeted advertising.

When We Disclose Information

We do not sell your Personal Data. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as described below:

• Google Firebase. We use Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, App Check, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Hosting for authentication, cloud storage, security, account-data deletion, and website hosting. You can learn more in the Firebase privacy documentation.
• Apple. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple processes the sign-in request. Apple App Attest also helps verify the integrity of the application and device. Apple's handling of information is governed by its own privacy terms.
• Expo. We use Expo services to build and deliver application updates. You can learn more in the Expo Privacy Policy.
• Google Fonts. The website requests font files from Google. Google receives the technical information necessary to answer that request.
• At your direction. We disclose information when you direct us to do so, such as when you use the system share sheet to export a paint list.
• Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, protect the rights and safety of users or others, investigate abuse, or protect the Service.
• Business transfers. If Scale Painter is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and continued protection of the information.

We select service providers that commit through their applicable terms to protect Personal Data and process it for the services they provide to us.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account information and cloud-stored stash and palette content while your account is active so that we can provide the Service. You can delete individual palettes and stash items in the application.

You can initiate deletion of your account from within Scale Painter. Account deletion initiates deletion of your Firebase Authentication account and the stash and palette data associated with it. Limited residual copies may remain in provider backups until those backups are overwritten. Firebase states that deleted Authentication data is removed from its live and backup systems within 180 days.

Firebase may retain logged authentication IP addresses for a few weeks. Other short-lived security tokens and technical records are retained according to the provider's operational and security schedules. We retain support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain a record of the request, protect our legal rights, or comply with law.

We may retain limited information for longer when required by law, needed to resolve a dispute, or necessary to prevent fraud or abuse.

International Data Transfers

Scale Painter is operated from Maine in the United States. Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on appropriate protections provided through our service providers' terms and data-processing arrangements.

Legal Bases for Processing in the EEA and UK

If European Economic Area or United Kingdom data-protection law applies, our legal bases depend on the particular processing:

• Performance of a contract: to create and administer your account and provide the features you request, including storing and synchronizing your content.
• Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Service; prevent fraud and abuse; respond to support requests; and protect our legal rights. We consider the effect of this processing on your rights before relying on this basis.
• Legal obligation: when processing is necessary to comply with applicable law or a valid legal request.

Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You can:

• Revoke camera access in your device settings.
• Delete individual palettes and remove paints from your stash.
• Delete your account from within the application.
• Contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Personal Data.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to receive a copy of your Personal Data, restrict or object to certain processing, request portability, or complain to your local data-protection authority. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. These rights may be subject to limitations under applicable law.

If you are in the EEA, you may complain to the data-protection authority in the country where you live or work. If you are in the UK, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children's Privacy

Scale Painter is a general-audience application and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 13. Sign in with Apple does not provide us with a user's age or date of birth. If we learn that we have collected Personal Data from a child under 13, we will delete the child's account and associated information. A parent or guardian who believes their child has provided Personal Data to us may contact us atcontact@scalepainter.app.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect Personal Data. These include encrypted network connections, account authentication, app and device attestation, and access controls that restrict each user's cloud-stored content to that user. No transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use previously collected Personal Data, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
